Volunteers - We always need your help!

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

The Pentagon Sailing Club runs on volunteers. Every bridge position, the bridge assistants, instructors, Bay Skippers, and the folks running events such as picnics, raft-ups, races, etc. are all members who volunteer their time to make the Pentagon Sailing Club the best regional value in sailing. You've learned to sail, you've sailed the rivers and bay, you've met some good folk, now it's time to give something back! Read on for opportunities and how we manage to offer some compensation.

The “Frequent Volunteer Sea Miles” (FVSM) Program compensates you with coupons for your volunteer time.  FSVM coupons can be redeemed for use of the river boats, trips on the Bay, or for other PSC activities like the Holiday Party! 

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:  You first invest some of your talent and expertise into the club.  Every 8 hours that you volunteer earns you a Frequent Volunteer Sea Mile coupon.  Each FVSM coupon is worth $25, and can be redeemed to offset use of the River boats, the cost of a Bay sailing trip or other PSC activity. FVSM coupons are valid for one year from the date of issue.   

Procedures: Each month, PSC volunteers report their hours to the bridge member(s) supported.  Bridge members report hours earned to Don Hupman utilizing FVSM Earned Hours Submission Forms.  FVSM coupons are distributed to volunteers at the following membership meeting.

This is an exceptional deal!  You work at the marina, help maintain boats, instruct in the Basic Sailing Classes, etc.  And in return, we'll reward you with Frequent Volunteer Sea Miles!  Plus, we'll give you the training you need to do any job right; for most volunteer opportunities, no previous experience is required!   Just think, while doing something enjoyable and helping the PSC, you’ll collect coupons to use towards great sailing opportunities on the River and the Bay!

RIVER BOAT MAINTENANCE WORK

We always need folks to help us to maintain and scrub the boats, and the "River Rats" have a wealth of information to share! Join them on maintenance days to learn more about the boats you sail, to help keep the fleet afloat, and earn FVSM coupons. Of course, there's usually some mandatory "test sailing" required just to make sure everything is working properly. Contact the PSC River Commodore to find out where and when the River Rats will be working next.

INSTRUCTORS

Are you an old salt with years of experience to impart on our new sailors? Or, maybe you just earned your Skipper B quals. Either way, or if you fall in between, we need your help to instruct the River Training Program. Hone your skills, earn FVSM, and don a red instructor shirt.
